Improving Sensing and Data Collection of Research for Lucid Dreaming

Lucid dreaming, a REM-sleep state in which the dreamer is aware they are dreaming, is linked to heightened frontoparietal brain activity and has potential applications in therapy and cognitive enhancement. Studying it is difficult due to challenges in inducing lucid dreams reliably, disruptions from lab environments, and a shortage of proficient subjects. Induction methods include cognitive exercises after REM disruption, drugs like galantamine, and devices such as the Remee Lucid Dream Mask, though these are expensive and often ineffective. The poster reviews recent peer-reviewed findings and describes wearable brain-sensing devices, proposing that combining existing technologies could create a more dependable home-use device to aid researchers in collecting richer data, potentially advancing understanding of consciousness and aiding patients with brain injuries.
