Sociology of Leisure: Cultivating Health and Mindful Happiness through ‘Shrimad Bhagavadgita’

Samsad Journal संसद जर्नल June 26, 2026 Dr. R.N. Tripathi

Leisure activities need not be conspicuous displays of status; mindful leisure practices, grounded in the Shrimad Bhagavadgita's teachings, can enhance well-being. The paper examines practitioners who follow the Gita's paths of Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Jnana Yoga as a holistic approach to cultivating health and happiness. The authors argue that Krishna's dialogue with Arjuna resembles early cognitive-behavioral therapy, helping reframe thoughts and regulate emotions. Qualitative research and thematic analysis suggest that integrating these teachings into daily or leisure activities fosters inner calm, resilience, and self-awareness, offering an antidote to consumerist lifestyles and promoting lasting health and happiness.
