Brainspotting reduces disturbance and increases Heart Rate Variability linked to distressing memories: A pilot study
Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology May 12, 2022 Fabio D'Antoni
Brainspotting (BSP), a brain-body psychotherapy developed by David Grand, significantly reduced distress associated with non-traumatic memories in a non-clinical adult sample compared to a Body Scan Meditation control condition after about 40 minutes of treatment. Participants also showed improved heart rate variability (HRV) time-domain parameters post-treatment. No significant differences were found between conditions on HRV frequency-domain parameters. The study examined participants' interoceptive awareness, attachment style, temperament, and character, highlighting the role of interoceptive awareness in processing distressing memories.
