The effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction training on fear of childbirth and psychological well-being in women experiencing premenstrual syndrome: a randomized controlled trial.

Archives of women's mental health June 19, 2026 Aysel Akbeniz, Esra Sabancı Baransel

A randomized controlled trial with 126 women experiencing Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) found that an 8-session online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, delivered twice weekly for 40 minutes per session, reduced premenstrual symptom severity and pre-pregnancy fear of childbirth, and improved psychological well-being compared to a no-intervention control group. Adjusted analyses showed moderate effect sizes for symptom severity and fear of childbirth, and a relatively large effect size for psychological well-being. The authors caution that results should be interpreted with care due to the lack of long-term follow-up data.
