Ediciones Comunicación Científica eBooks December 1, 2024 Alejandro Chávez Rodríguez
In urban Guadalajara, Mexico, ayahuasca use in ritual contexts is perceived by users as an effective alternative psychological therapy for everyday problems. This qualitative phenomenological and ethnographic study, based on in-depth interviews and participant observation, found that users' experiences and perceptions support ayahuasca as a complementary therapy alongside conventional psychotherapies to improve mental health. The authors conclude that ayahuasca rituals offer a coping experience that users consume and recommend, and that future research may help regulate community treatments in public health for diverse communities.
