The Interpretation of Dream Motif in Mongols Oral and Ancient Literature : Based on Dream Examples Related to Chinggis Khaan

Dream motifs in ancient Mongol literature about Chinggis Khaan are analyzed and interpreted in connection with oral tradition. The dreams are categorized into three types: symbolic, visionary, and psychological. In The Legend of Mother Alan Goo, a symbolic dream motif affirms that Chinggis Khaan's lineage originated from the Eternal heavens (Mönkh Tenger). The Dream of Dei Setsen uses a white falcon bringing the sun and moon as a symbolic description emphasizing the inevitability of forming kinship alliances through marriage with politically powerful groups.
