Revisiting the Role of Mindfulness Practices for Stress Reduction: An Empirical Study
FIIB Business Review March 8, 2026 Wahab Shahbaz, Aymen Sajjad
University staff in New Zealand who practice mindfulness do so at four distinct times—morning, midday, on the spot, and after work—each linked to different workplace outcomes. Based on interviews with 28 staff members, the study argues that a supportive organizational environment, including private spaces, natural elements, communal support, and mobile apps, is crucial for sustaining these practices and reducing stress. The authors contend that job demands–resources theory helps explain how context and timing shape mindfulness's effectiveness for stress reduction and productivity in academia.
