Role of meditation to improve children's health: Time to look at other strategies.

Journal of paediatrics and child health February 1, 2021 Nina A Wilson, Maura A Kenny, Alexia S Peña

Up to 7 million people in the United States practice meditation to improve emotional wellbeing and reduce stress. Evidence from systematic reviews and randomized controlled trials supports meditation's use for managing health conditions in adults, and emerging research suggests benefits for children and adolescents, including improved mood, mental health, school attendance, and classroom attention. This article offers a perspective on common meditation types like Transcendental Meditation and mindfulness-based stress reduction, discusses evidence for meditation's role in child and adolescent health, school-based programs, limitations of existing literature, and considerations for healthcare practitioners.
