INDIAN EDIFICATION NEEDS TO REVISIT MINDFULNESS AND SUSTAINABILITY FROM THE PAST EDUCATION SYSTEM

The article argues that integrating mindfulness and sustainability into India's education system can address modern challenges like student mental health and environmental degradation. Drawing on ancient practices from the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta and Yoga Sutras, it proposes that mindfulness fosters resilience and ethical living in harmony with nature. The author highlights the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as a transformative framework that blends ancient Indian educational traditions, such as the gurukul system, with global Sustainable Development Goals. The piece advocates for embedding mindfulness in curricula to cultivate compassionate, sustainable citizens, bridging historical insights with contemporary policy.
