Psychedelic drugs such as LSD are psychoactive substances used in various sociocultural contexts and have recently gained attention for their potential psychiatric use. This review of five studies published between 2017 and 2023 found that psychedelics involve serotonin and norepinephrine release without toxic brain effects. Studies assessing LSD and other psychedelics showed promising improvements in quality of life and disruptive symptoms with few side effects. However, sample sizes remain small, and aspects like dosage and treatment duration are not yet well understood. The therapeutic use of psychedelics appears viable but requires further investigation with larger samples and more variables.
