A systematic review of ten journal articles found that mindfulness meditation can help reduce anxiety and depression while improving awareness, cognitive function, and emotional memory. The practice is also linked to enhanced immune function, reduced psychological distress, greater well-being, and increased empathy and compassion. Practitioners may become happier, more satisfied, and healthier, with a better sense of inner balance compared to non-practitioners. The review aimed to identify, evaluate, and synthesize literature on mindfulness meditation and its application to anxiety, integrating knowledge and experience with treatment literature.
This study examined whether yoga meditation, as a complementary therapy, reduces stress in patients at a psychiatric polyclinic in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Sixty stress patients were divided into two groups: one received only pharmacological therapy, and the other received pharmacological therapy plus yoga meditation. Statistical tests showed no significant difference in stress levels between the groups before the intervention, but after the intervention, the group receiving yoga meditation had a significantly lower average stress level than the control group. The authors conclude that yoga meditation combined with pharmacological therapy is more effective than pharmacological therapy alone.
