TRANSPERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS A RESPONSE TO THE CHALLENGES OF NIHILISM: THE EUROPEAN CONTEXT

Spirituality is examined as an existential attitude toward the sacred mystery of being, which transcends intellectual understanding and is accessed through transpersonal, intuitive experience. Such experience, described as spiritual inspiration, reveals inexpressible truths beyond facts and texts and is constitutive of human formation and humanization. The authors argue that transcendence involves self-improvement, self-overcoming, and expansion of consciousness through a moral transformation akin to symbolic death and resurrection, aiming at existential fullness and happiness. Historical forms of spiritual initiation, including ancient mysteries, the Christian Eucharist, and Platonic inspiration-madness, are analyzed.
