SYATAHAT OF THE SUFIS AND THE ISSUE OF HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS

Syat{ah{at are ecstatic utterances made by Sufis during intense spiritual states, often sounding blasphemous as they imply union with God. The research examines the concept etymologically (meaning 'shaking') and terminologically (strange speeches heard when Sufis reach wajd or wujud levels). Factors include strong emotional feelings, spiritual ecstasy (wajd), self-unification (ittihad), intoxication (sakr), hearing divine signals, and loss of self-consciousness. Additional factors are tawajud practices (prayer, dhikr, meditation, contemplation), being suddenly controlled by Allah (warid al-ilahiyyah), and absence of prejudice about union with God. From a transpersonal psychology perspective, these utterances combine words normally reserved for God and are spoken without the Sufi's awareness.
