Human thinking and feeling are closely linked to the use of external objects and tools, which can be either material or digital and computer-based. The 4E Cognition approach provides a framework for describing this interplay between internal mental processes and external artifacts. Psychological research topics in the material and digital domains include haptic exploration of material objects, object-related action control, the cognitive and affective impact of digital objects, and the influence of linking material and digital elements on human thought and experience.
