A systematic review of 11 studies involving 475 patients with traumatic brain injury and disorders of consciousness or persistent vegetative state examined whether non-invasive brain stimulation techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation can improve arousal and alertness. The findings suggest that these techniques may lead to improvements, but the magnitude and duration of effects varied across studies. Further well-controlled research is needed to determine optimal stimulation parameters, long-term effects, and possible combinations with other rehabilitation approaches.
Qigong, a 3,000-year-old Chinese practice, regulates the body's energy flow through deep breathing, gentle movement, and muscle-strengthening exercises. It induces relaxation, builds stamina, strengthens immunity, improves muscle conditioning, and reduces anxiety and depression. The technique enhances awareness of joint and movement senses and brings healing by regulating energy throughout the body. It also produces regenerating effects through emotional and mental relaxation. Today, Qigong is used globally for treating work- and stress-related musculoskeletal disorders, while its meditative aspects promote peace of mind and spirituality, and vigorous forms include martial arts.
Attitudes toward death that involve fear, avoidance, approach, and escape acceptance are linked with higher death anxiety, while dispositional mindfulness and a tranquil ego are linked with lower death anxiety. Among 209 Indian adults who recovered from COVID-19 symptoms, path analyses indicated that mindfulness and a tranquil ego sequentially mediate the relationship between death attitudes and death anxiety. The findings suggest that different aspects of how people view death predict anxiety about death in distinct ways, and that cultivating mindfulness and a calm sense of self may help reduce that anxiety.
