Consciousness and the self are heavily debated in neuroscience, with no consensus on how to relate them. This paper argues that affective neuroscience offers a useful perspective for analyzing this conceptual pair, showing that existing theoretical and empirical research can clarify the connection despite conceptual entanglements in the literature.
