Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, shows promise for managing depression and anxiety. Interviews with ten people who used psilocybin while experiencing these conditions revealed enhanced sensory experiences, a feeling of being connected to the universe, stabilized mood, increased optimism and emotional control, and healthier emotional connections with others. Participants also reported a sense of calm and peace. Many described the drug as making new connections in their brain, leading to new perspectives and a calming influence. The findings suggest that even a single dose can have positive effects, and that professional guidance during administration is important for safety.
