Evaluation of a Modified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Intervention for Adults with Cerebral Palsy and Anxiety and/or Emotion Regulation Difficulties-A Randomised Control Trial.

Journal of Clinical Medicine December 19, 2023 Hayley Smithers-Sheedy, Emma Waight, Katherine L Swinburn et al. 4 citations

A modified telehealth Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for adults with cerebral palsy who had elevated anxiety or emotion regulation difficulties did not produce a statistically significant between-group difference in mindfulness scores compared with a wait-list group. However, within the MBSR group, participants showed improvements in depression, stress, and emotion regulation that were maintained eight weeks after the program ended. The program was successfully adapted for this population. The trial included 31 participants with no or mild intellectual impairment who attended 90-minute weekly sessions for nine weeks.

Experiences of a Mindfulness-Based Telehealth Program Modified for Adults with Cerebral Palsy-A Qualitative Study.

Healthcare (Basel, Switzerland) January 13, 2026 Georgina Henry, Ingrid Honan, Emma Waight et al.

Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) who participated in a 9-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) telehealth program reported building a personal toolkit of mindfulness techniques, applying these strategies in daily life, and valuing the online group setting with expert facilitation. Participants suggested improvements: adding a group orientation, shortening sessions to reduce fatigue, and offering follow-up sessions to sustain skills. The study provides new knowledge about the experiences of adults with CP in MBSR telehealth programs, with recommendations for future implementation.
