Exploring dream content as an expression of underlying mental states: A thematic analysis of ten clinical cases in homoeopathic practice - A pilot study

A secondary qualitative analysis of ten purposively selected clinical cases in homoeopathic practice identified five recurring themes in dream narratives: threat, anxiety and loss of control; suppressed and repressed emotional experience; aggression, conflict and the threatened self; attachment, sexuality and unmet relational needs; and vulnerability, isolation and inadequacy. The authors argue that dreams may offer clinically relevant material about emotional concerns not readily expressed during waking interviews, and that their value lies in contextual thematic analysis rather than fixed symbolic interpretation. They call for larger prospective studies with systematic coding and independent validation.
