In a randomized clinical trial with 108 adults with type 2 diabetes, a 12-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program was compared to routine care. After the intervention, the MBSR group showed significant improvements in HbA1C, fasting blood sugar (FBS), and scores for depression, anxiety, and stress compared to their baseline. Between-group comparisons showed significant mean changes for all outcomes except FBS. The authors suggest that mindfulness meditation may improve mental health and glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes, though the effect on FBS was not significantly different from routine care.
