The Impact of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction on Emotional Wellbeing and Glycemic Control of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Journal of Diabetes Research June 28, 2018 A. Armani Kian, B. Vahdani, A. A. Noorbala et al.

An eight-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program improved emotion regulation and glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. In a randomized trial with 60 patients, those who completed MBSR sessions showed significantly greater reductions in fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, anxiety, and depression scores compared to a treatment-as-usual group at both eight weeks and three months. The authors conclude that MBSR meaningfully benefits both emotional well-being and diabetes management.
