An Examination of the Possibility of Loving-Kindness and Compassion Meditation for Pregnant Women: A Preliminary Study

June 30, 2017 M. Kim, J. Heo, Wan-Suk Gim

An exploratory pilot study examined the feasibility of loving-kindness and compassion meditation (LKCM) for pregnant women. Measures of stress, depression, maternal-fetal attachment, mindfulness, and self-compassion were taken at baseline and after a 4-week LKCM program in eight participants. Results indicated potential for improving psychological comfort and positive relationship with the fetus, along with identifying complementary points for session content and home training. The authors hope the findings broaden understanding for developing LKCM for pregnant women and promote further research.
