The zombie is the 'tulpa' most typically used to highlight socio-political subtext in horror films, addressing subjects such as slavery, the Vietnam War, consumerism, the military-industrial complex, and ecological disasters. This chapter examines the Catholic Zombie, a subgenre of zombie film from Roman Catholic countries in Europe, and explores criticism of Roman Catholicism and the colonial history of the Roman Catholic Church.
