PHENOMENOLOGY OF DREAMING: A PHILOSOPHICAL SKETCH

Filosofska dumka September 27, 2023 H. Nivnia

The author argues that a phenomenological approach to studying dreams is justified because dreams, though not objects of reflection in real time, become moments of consciousness when they remain in memory. Visually or emotionally vivid dreams can be remembered alongside real events, yet a clear distinction between dream and reality is maintained. Dreams are interpreted as both a component of individual experience and an element of the intersubjective world, with intersubjectivity arising from universal psychological and bodily experiences and dream motifs.
