A quasi-experimental study tested whether mindfulness-based cognitive therapy improves perceived social support and resilience in people with morbid obesity. Thirty adults with a BMI above 40 from District 8 of Tehran were assigned to either eight weekly 90-minute group therapy sessions or a no-intervention control group. After the intervention, the therapy group showed statistically significantly higher scores on measures of perceived social support and resilience compared to the control group, controlling for pretest scores. The authors conclude that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy can be an effective intervention for this population.
