Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy to Improve Sleep Quality in Older Adults with Insomnia

Intervencion psicosocial July 1, 2022 M. Camino, E. Satorres, I. Delhom et al.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) reduces insomnia symptoms in older adults with subclinical and moderate insomnia. In a randomized trial, 106 older adults with subclinical (n=50) or moderate insomnia (n=56) were assigned to MBCT or a control group. Those receiving MBCT showed significant improvements on the Insomnia Severity Index and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, indicating better sleep quality. The authors conclude that combining mindfulness and cognitive therapy is effective for treating insomnia in this population.
