Exploring the Impact of Teacher-Led Silent Meditation Practices in Buddhist Sunday Schools

Journal of Nonformal Education May 7, 2025 I Ketut Damana, Colin Simonds

Teachers in Buddhist Sunday schools face reluctance and uncertainty in effectively teaching health meditation techniques, which may hinder student learning outcomes. This qualitative study at Vipassana Giri Ratana, Bogor, used interviews, observations, and documentation to examine the silent education method employed by teachers. The research identifies pedagogical content knowledge shared in health meditation, factors influencing practice, and challenges in implementation. The authors propose that understanding these teaching strategies can improve meditation education in Buddhist settings.
