The psychedelic substance 25H-NBOMe disrupts maternal behavior in lactating rats, impairing nest-building and pup retrieval, without affecting body weight of mothers or pups. Offspring of exposed mothers show reduced social play behavior. Higher doses cause more pronounced maternal disruptions, while lower doses, which do not visibly alter maternal behavior, still reduce offspring social play, suggesting direct effects of the drug. The findings highlight risks of using 25H-NBOMe during lactation, emphasizing its detrimental impact on maternal care and offspring neurodevelopment.
