Psicoterapia assistida por psilocibina no tratamento da depressão

January 1, 2022 Gabriela Zorzi Marcello Marcello, Marcourakis, Tania

Depression affects about 3.4% of the world's population, and current treatments, primarily selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), face challenges such as high relapse rates, dose adjustment difficulties, and non-responsiveness. Psilocybin, an alkaloid found in Psilocybe mushrooms, has been used in psychoemotional healing contexts. Recent studies evaluate psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for depression, suggesting positive clinical improvements with fewer adverse effects and shorter treatment duration compared to conventional antidepressants. However, more clinical trials with larger participant numbers and longer follow-up are needed to validate its effectiveness as a treatment for depression.
