Oneiris: An AI-augmented Brain-Computer Interface for Exploring Personal and Collective Dreamscapes
Expanded September 3, 2025 Antoine Bellemare‐Pepin, Philipp Thölke, Karim Jerbi et al.
Oneiris is an interactive art installation that combines brain-computer interface technology, generative artificial intelligence, and Indigenous Lakota dream symbols. Participants wear an EEG headset to provide dream narratives and sketches, which are processed by AI to create evolving visual dreamscapes. The installation uses a Medicine Wheel interface to give feedback on cognitive states and archives contributions in a collective semantic map. It aims to ethically integrate Indigenous epistemologies with neuroscience and AI, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and introspection about personal dreams as culturally embedded phenomena.
