Hypnopompic Cognition: The Hidden Gem of Mature Human Cognition After 60+

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research) April 6, 2026 Radoslav Apostolov Nakev

The hypnopompic transition between sleep and wakefulness may be a universal cognitive resource that could appear multiple times within a single night, each instance linked to a distinct block of sleep-dependent consolidation. This work establishes a conceptual foundation for future research rather than introducing a new model, based on preliminary observations suggesting that under certain conditions the hypnopompic window may occur twice in one night.
