The association between reported nightmares and depressive symptoms in a non-clinical large sample of Arab students

Nightmares are linked to higher levels of depression and anxiety among Arab participants, based on a cross-cultural sample. The association between nightmare frequency and psychopathology was consistent across different Arab subgroups. The findings suggest that nightmares are a transdiagnostic marker of emotional distress in this population, though the direction of causality is not established.
