THE EXPERIENCE OF “MYSTERIUM TREMENDUM” IN S.L. FRANK’S AND R. OTTO’S PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION

The article compares how Semyon Frank and Rudolf Otto describe the structure and content of religious experience, especially the experience of "mysterium tremendum." It shows connections between their concepts of mystery and the "utterly different." The author identifies references to Otto's idea of the "sacred" in Frank's works, including recently introduced texts like "First Philosophy" and lecture notes on the "Philosophy of Religion." Frank describes the Holy as a mystery evoking awe, similar to Otto's numinous and mysterium tremendum. However, Frank gives Otto's phenomenological categories an ontological character, integrating them into his principle of antinomic monodualism.
