The relevance of theologies for religious experience is illustrated in three content areas in the empirical psychology of religion: (a) projection theories of religious experience; (b) images-of-God research; and (c) identity theories of mystical experience. In each area arguments are made to indicate the relevance of theologies for empirical research.

40 Baptists and 40 persons who had no religious membership were asked to give experience ratings on religious and unity criteria of mysticism.
