The impact of self-transcendence values on cooperative behaviors: attitude mediation and emotional moderation.

Frontiers in Psychology January 1, 2025 Qian-Qian Kong, Harmi Izzuan Bin Baharum

Among 561 Chinese university English learners, self-transcendence values positively predicted cooperative attitudes, which in turn mediated cooperative behaviors. Emotional intelligence and foreign language enjoyment also positively contributed to cooperative attitudes and behaviors. However, emotional intelligence and foreign language enjoyment negatively moderated the link between self-transcendence values and cooperative attitudes, suggesting an inhibitory role in that value-to-attitude pathway. The findings extend the Value-Attitude-Behavior model to second language learning, showing a complex interplay between personal values and affective factors in shaping cooperation.
