Meditation Tourism, Buddhist Philosophy in Practice: A Case Study of Lumbini, Nepal

The Gaze Journal of Tourism and Hospitality December 9, 2019 Netra Prasad Sharma 10 citations

Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, holds potential as a destination for meditation tourism, yet most visitors are unaware of meditation practice or the core aspects of Buddha's teachings. This article explores the spiritual significance of Lumbini and argues that developing meditation tourism could benefit individuals, society, and national development. The government and private sectors are interested in developing Lumbini as a tourist destination, but a gap exists between Buddhist philosophy and the attitudes of most visitors, who do not realize or practice meditation and compassion. The study aims to reveal the significance of meditation tourism in Lumbini and provide visions for purposeful development and publicity.
