Decrease in blood pressure and improved psychological aspects through meditation training in hypertensive older adults: A randomized control study.

Geriatrics & gerontology international October 1, 2015 Márcia De Fátima Rosas Marchiori, Elisa Harumi Kozasa, Roberto Dischinger Miranda et al.

Practicing Zen meditation twice daily for 20 minutes over three months helped lower systolic blood pressure and improve psychological aspects and overall quality of life in adults aged 60 and older with mild hypertension. Systolic blood pressure decreased significantly after one month of meditation compared with a control group that remained on a waiting list, though the difference between groups diminished after that. The findings suggest that Zen meditation may serve as a useful complementary approach for managing hypertension in older adults.
