Lived Experiences of Regular Vipassana Meditators in Buddha's Birthland: Perspective from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory

Journal of Kapan Multiple Campus December 31, 2025 Santosh Lama, Bhagwan Aryal, Khagendra Prasad Joshi

Regular Vipassana meditators in Lumbini, Nepal, experience enhanced spiritual well-being through practices that cultivate purity of mind, detachment from ego, heightened awareness, present-moment living, meaning, purpose, a sense of sacred connection, and self-transcendence. The study connects these experiences to Maslow's highest stage of fulfillment—self-transcendence—showing how meditation enables inner growth and a richer spiritual life. Eight meditators shared their lived experiences in interviews, revealing key patterns that link contemplative discipline to spiritual fulfillment, adding a culturally grounded perspective on meditation's role in achieving inner freedom and spiritual growth.

Interconnecting Vipassana with Human Health and School Curriculum

Interdisciplinary Research in Education December 31, 2022 Santosh Lama, Bhagwan Aryal

A desk review examined how Vipassana meditation relates to the full range of human health dimensions and considered its potential integration into school curricula. Based on secondary data from online sources, the review found that Vipassana positively affects physical, mental, social, psychological, and spiritual health. Its moral code and precepts help foster peaceful feelings, equanimity, and compassion, thereby supporting social integrity. The authors suggest that linking Vipassana with the school curriculum could shift the educational paradigm, though no prior review has addressed social well-being and spiritual health together, indicating a gap for future research.
