A Mindfulness-Based Brain-Computer Interface to Augment Mandala Coloring for Depression: Protocol for a Single-Case Experimental Design

JMIR Research Protocols February 22, 2021 Daudén Roquet, Claudia, Sas, Corina

A brain-computer interface called Anima augments mandala coloring by generating a color palette based on the user's mindfulness state during practice. The system is designed to improve mental well-being in adults who have experienced depression and completed treatment within the past year. A multiple-baseline, single-case experimental design will evaluate training effectiveness using measures of mindfulness, depression symptoms, mental well-being, and user experience. Data will be collected through questionnaires before and after each coloring session and biweekly interviews. Results will be analyzed using visual and statistical methods appropriate for single-case methodology.
