Meditasi Buddhis dalam Menjaga Kesehatan Mental dan Tantangan Implementasinya

JERUMI Journal of Education Religion Humanities and Multidiciplinary June 12, 2026 Budiono Budiono, Goey Adi Widjaja Gunawan, Eka Wulanndari et al.

Mental health is a critical issue in modern life, marked by rising stress and psychological disorders. Buddhist meditation offers a transformative approach through awareness and inner purification. This literature review examines Buddhist meditation's role in maintaining mental health and identifies challenges in its modern application. The analysis of classical Buddhist texts and modern scientific research shows that mental health in a Buddhist perspective involves a mind free from defilements (kilesa) developing toward wholesome consciousness (sobhana citta) and mental balance (upekkhā). Vipassanā meditation works through systematic awareness mechanisms that align with neuroscientific findings on emotion regulation and brain structure changes. However, modern implementation faces challenges of meaning reduction, lifestyle influences, and limited practical understanding. An integrative approach combining Buddhist teachings with modern scientific validation is needed.
