A randomized, controlled clinical trial: the effect of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy on generalized anxiety disorder among Chinese community patients: protocol for a randomized trial

BMC Psychiatry March 12, 2013 YS Wong Samuel, WS Mak Winnie, YL Cheung Eliza et al.

An eight-week Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) program may reduce anxiety symptoms in people with generalized anxiety disorder. A proposed three-armed randomized controlled trial will compare MBCT plus usual care, a psycho-education program plus usual care, and usual care alone. 228 participants diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder via the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV will be recruited from community clinics. The primary outcome is change in anxiety and worry scores from baseline to the end of the intervention, measured by the Beck Anxiety Inventory and Penn State Worry Scale. This is the first trial to compare MBCT with an active control group.
