Effects of Stress Reduction Therapy Based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) on Emotion Regulation Strategies, Perceived Stress, And Quality of Life of Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

ASEAN Journal of Psychiatry April 1, 2022 Mohammadsadegh Homayoon

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy improved emotion regulation and quality of life in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). In a study of 30 MS patients, those who received eight weekly 90-minute MBSR sessions showed significant improvements in self-blame, acceptance, and positive reappraisal compared to a control group. No significant differences were found for mental rumination or adopting a perspective. MBSR also reduced perceived stress and enhanced some dimensions of quality of life, suggesting it may be a useful intervention for MS patients.
