Nurturing the Present: A Comprehensive Exploration of Mindfulness-Based Interventions and Their Impact on Mental and Physical Health

Journal of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy and Research January 1, 2025 Sena İnal Azizoğlu

Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), adapted from Buddhist traditions into therapeutic approaches like mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, show promise for treating depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and substance abuse. Recent well-designed randomized controlled trials report efficacy in improving mental health outcomes, such as reducing relapse rates in depression and alleviating anxiety symptoms. MBIs are being applied in workplaces, schools, and prisons. However, the evidence base remains evolving due to methodological limitations in existing studies. This narrative review provides an overview of MBIs' theoretical foundations, clinical applications, and potential mechanisms affecting psychological and physical well-being.
