Sheaf theoretic formulation for consciousness and qualia and relationship to the idealism of non-dual philosophies.

Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology December 1, 2017 Menas C Kafatos, Goro C Kato

Systems that assume a reality independent of consciousness cannot answer fundamental questions about the nature of reality or consciousness itself, because they rely on a strict subject-object division. The authors advocate an approach aligned with quantum reality, grounded in Rāmānuja's Vedanta and non-dual Kashmir Śaivism. Quantum mechanics opened the door to consciousness but cannot account for it; the measurement problem shows subjective experience cannot be removed from science. Temporal topos, a mathematical framework outlined here, models the subject-object distinction as the direction of a morphism in a category, with the dual category reversing that direction. This formalism addresses consciousness and qualia beyond physical theories and suggests a convergence of science and non-dualist philosophies toward an underlying unity of physics, life, and mind.
