Quantifying Consciousness in Artificial Intelligence: An Integrated Approach Using Quantum Mechanics, Information Theory, and Neuroscience
Jonathan Jared Wilson preprint
A novel approach to quantifying consciousness in artificial intelligence systems integrates principles from quantum mechanics, information theory, and neuroscience. The model includes components such as self-awareness, subjective experience, intentionality, metacognition, integrated information processing, and dynamic cognition, which are considered essential for conscious experience. The model is demonstrated using a simulated AI system. The paper argues that the pursuit of artificial consciousness is a scientific, technological, philosophical, and ethical endeavor with implications for understanding the nature of mind and human-machine relationships.
