Abstract

Focusing on the synergistic efficacy of music therapy and psychedelic treatment in improving patient recovery, this paper addresses their possible integration in the treatment of psychiatric diseases. The authors give background in the introduction on the need of looking for alternative therapies for psychiatric disorders, presenting music therapy to enhance emotional and cognitive well-being in patients and psychedelic treatment as a hopeful approach for treating conditions untreatable with conventional techniques. An integrative narrative review, choosing studies that address the use of music therapy, psychedelic treatment, and a combination of the two, constitutes the approach taken in this paper. The findings indicate that both treatments greatly help to reduce symptoms of mental diseases including anxiety, depression, and PTSD as well as speed up patient recovery. By offering a more immersive and efficient experience in mental treatment, further studies combining these two therapies could deepen our knowledge of how to maximize therapeutic strategies. Though there are still gaps in research that have to be filled, particularly regarding long-term effects and the mechanisms underlying the interaction between the two, the findings of this review suggest that the combination of music therapy and psychedelic treatment has great potential to improve the quality of psychiatric care.
