Abstract
In this chapter, Jason A. Butler and Evan Sola provide a framework for working with the symbolic images, visions, inchoate sensations, intense emotions, and archetypal energies consistently evoked by psychedelics. The authors weave together Jungian and psychoanalytic theory and technique with psychedelic research and practice to articulate an imaginal model for psychedelic therapy. Using illustrative case examples from ketamine and MDMA-assisted therapy, the authors provide elaborate descriptions of the psyche’s innate intelligence, as expressed through dreams and the dreamlike nature of psychedelic experience.
