Abstract
Introduction: Psychedelic-assisted therapy has resurfaced as a promising intervention for treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders. However, regulatory pathways differ considerably across countries because of social, ethical, legal, and political factors.
Methods: This review was conducted using the regulatory frameworks of Australia, Brazil, and the USA, along with publicly accessible data, legislation, policy documents, and scientific literature on psychedelics.
Results: Australia has created the most organized therapeutic access route by rescheduling MDMA and psilocybin under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist. Brazil lacks a thorough clinical regulatory framework for professional psychedelic-assisted therapy and only permits ayahuasca in religious circumstances. In contrast, despite growing clinical research and statelevel regulatory reforms, the majority of psychedelics are still classified as Schedule 1 narcotics in the United States. There are still issues with patient safety, informed consent, accessibility, ethical oversight, and the protection of indigenous rights in all three countries.
Discussion: The maturity and direction of psychedelic regulations are strongly influenced by cultural acceptance, healthcare infrastructure, indigenous traditions, and political priorities.
