Abstract

Mindfulness meditation has only recently begun implementation into the music performance field, and it remains unclear as to if mindfulness-based interventions can strengthen sight-reading ability and change performer’s perceptions of the sight-reading experience. The purpose of this study was to see if mindfulness-based intervention can change collegiate music performer’s perceptions of the sight-reading experience and improve their sight-reading abilities, as well as provide a foundation for further extensive, quantitative research into the effects of mindfulness on sight-reading. This study explored the question, “How does mindfulness-based intervention affect sight-reading experience and proficiency in university music students?”
