Abstract
Background: Burnout in corporate settings is increasingly understood as a chronic occupational stresssyndrome marked by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced professional efficacy. At thephysiological level, sustained workplace strain is associated with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA) axis dysregulation, sympathetic nervous system (SNS) dominance, and measurable changes inprefrontal-limbic function. Active mindfulness programmes such as mindfulness-based stressreduction (MBSR) can help, but they often require sustained attentional effort-something depletedemployees may find difficult to maintain. Yoga Nidra, a guided non-sleep deep rest (NSDR) protocolpractised in supine posture, offers a low-demand alternative.Objective: To synthesise published evidence on the neurobiological pathways through which YogaNidra may mitigate occupational stress and burnout, with emphasis on electroencephalographic (EEG)profiles, autonomic balance indexed by heart rate variability (HRV), and neuroendocrine markers suchas cortisol.Methods: Following PRISMA 2020 reporting standards (Page et al., 2021), we searched PubMed,Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane CENTRAL from database inception through May 2026. Eligiblerecords included randomised controlled trials (RCTs), controlled clinical studies, neuroimaginginvestigations, and peer-reviewed systematic reviews examining Yoga Nidra in working adults orcomparable occupational groups experiencing elevated stress or burnout. Because direct corporateburnout trials with full neurobiological profiling remain scarce, findings from adjacent populations(teachers, healthcare workers, and general working adults) were included where mechanisticallyrelevant. This review reports narrative synthesis and integrates effect sizes from existing meta-analysesrather than performing new quantitative pooling.Results: Across the included literature, Yoga Nidra is consistently associated with shifts toward slowerEEG rhythms-notably alpha (8–12 Hz) and, in deeper practice states, frontocentral theta (4–8 Hz)-alongside improved parasympathetic indices on HRV.
